As a part of the exhibition ‘As we know it’ in the Vondelbunker in Amsterdam about life in the year 2345 in collaboration with Marijn van der Eyden.
“Renovatie of renoveren is herstellen en wanneer nodig gedeeltelijk vernieuwen van een bestaand pand, waardoor het weer bruikbaar wordt naar de huidige maatstaven en normen.” (Translation: Renovation is restoring and partly renewing an existing building, to make it usable again to the current standards.)
Thinking about the future and climate we imagined an accelerated renovation. From our individual perspectives we responded to this concept of renovation.
Laura: “In the future the world will be chaotic and not nearly as comfortable as we now know it. All this chaos has forced us to improvise in order to protect ourselves. How would this improvisation work? What do we protect ourselves against? And what will these new standards look like if the urgency is high and improvisation is all that we do?”
Marijn: “We are constantly improving, innovating, constructing and deconstructing the surface of this world. What will this look like in the future?
To what extend can we control our built surroundings and to what extend is it controlling us? Can this endless process of renovation continue?”
